Wheelchair Basketball

Wheelchair basketball is open to both men and women. Two teams play, each team comprising five players on the court and seven replacements for a total of 12 players. The objective of the game is to score points by dropping the ball in the opponent's basket and to prevent him from doing the same. Court dimensions and basket height are the same as in classic basketball. The wheelchair is considered an extension of the player. The total score of the five players on the court can't be more than 14 points during the game. At the Défi sportif AlterGo, the point limit is 15.

Every match is composed of four 10-minute periods, with a 1-minute break after the first and third periods and a 15-minute break between the second and third periods. When both teams are tied at the end of the 4th period, additional 5-minute periods will be added until the tie is broken.

Points are given each time a team drops the ball in the opponent's basket according to the following parameters:

A free throw counts for one (1) point.
A throw from the two-point field goal area counts for two (2) points.
A throw from the three-point field goal area counts for three (3) points.

Each team has 24 seconds to score a point after which the ball and the initiative of the game revert to the opposing team.
