Défi sportif AlterGo: food policy

Policy goals

In establishing a food policy, the Be Your Best Project is seeking to enhance the food products provided by Défi Sportif AlterGo by including more high-nutrient selections that fall within the definition of a healthy diet. Participants (i.e. athletes, young people and volunteers) will have access to a wider range of nutritious meals and snacks. In addition, enhancing the food offer underscores the important links between good eating and physical activity. It is also important and necessary for a sporting event of this size to serve as a model for the adoption of good heating habits.

General food policy

During the event, 80% of the food products available should meet healthy eating principles. Since the DSA is a large-scale sporting event that attracts a large number of participants (i.e. professional and amateur athletes), the menu offerings should be primarily geared towards that clientele.

The products available at the competition sites must be free from trans fats and artificial sweeteners.

Fried and breaded foods are prohibited.

Energy drinks will not be distributed or sold on site.

Lunch boxes for athletes

During the event, athletes and volunteers will enjoy high-quality meals catered by Compass Group. Healthy and complete meals will be served at all of the competition sites.

Participants will also be able to order lunch boxes, which will be delivered to the competition sites. More information will be available at a later date.
