In parallel with the five days of competition, the Défi sportif proposes special events to foster greater social integration of people with disabilities.
The Day of the Bearers of dossiers was born of a partnership between the Association des établissements de réadaptation en déficience physique du Québec (association of physical disabilities rehabilitation establishments of Quebec) (AERDPQ) and Défi sportif.
The day aims to favour the development of the practice of adapted sports as a means of allowing the optimization of social participation of people living with a physical deficiency. During the event, the bearers of dossiers, spokespersons delegated by each of the AERDPQ centres, have the opportunity to trade views on the reality experienced in their respective working environment.
The Défi sportif, Hydro-Québec and the Réseau des Sports present the Défi sportif des Stars! High level athletes and celebrities from the artistic and sports scene get together for a passionate evening packed with action. Hotly contested wheelchair basketball and rugby competitions! Atmosphere and fun guaranteed!
The Défi sportif benefit performance assembles every year a few hundred people coming mainly from the Quebec business community.Ticket sales for the evening provide a part of the financing required for holding the Défi sportif. This year, the Circassian collective Les 7 doigts de la main will be top of the bill.
Partners Day has been on since 1997. This event is a day for communications and exchanges between interveners from the City of Montréal and the organisations active in leisure and culture on the island of Montréal. Since last year, recognizing the pan-Montréal organizations has taken on a new importance.
Rehabilitation Day exists since 2002. The event is at the heart of a three-year partnership between the Association des établissements en réadaptation en déficience physique du Québec (AERDPQ) (the Association of centres for physical disabilities rehabilitation of Quebec) and Défi sportif. Activities on the agenda aim to sensitize the interveners and to promote physical activity, sports and leisure within the rehabilitation process.
The structure set up in 2009 is expanding for the 2010 Défi sportif with the addition of a second sports trial zone. Surrounded by a team of specialists, the public will be able to experiment a few of the disciplines presented at the event. Sports guides will also be on hand at certain platforms in order to answer the visitors’ various questions.
An initiative that started in 2009, the SUPER FINAL is a general public event aimed at showcasing adapted sport. Climax of the Défi sportif, this colourful sporting meet doubles as the closing ceremony. For the 27th edition, the SUPER FINAL will have the two top teams participating in the Amputee World Hockey Championship facing off.
