The representatives from Quebec did very well at the Special Olympics World Winter Games presented last February 7-13 in Boise, USA. The Quebec contingent garnered 16 medals by the end of the competition, which gathered 3,000 athletes living with an intellectual disability and coming from 85 countries.
The most decorated members of the delegation from la Belle Province, Michaël Gilbert and Jean-François Leclerc, both claimed three gold medals each. The former competed in Alpine skiing and the latter in snowshoeing.
Michaël Bisaillon-Goudreau won one of each of the medals on his snowshoes. In the same discipline still, Nancy Leduc, took one gold medal and two bronze.
In figure skating, Christina Sophia Koutras climbed on the highest step of the podium. For their part, her compatriots Vicky Dupont and Zane Salera-Nasra finished second and third.
Downhill skier Maxime Boyer also contributed to the Quebec successes, adding a bronze medal to the team record.
Congratulations to all!
