The Défi sportif unveiled the programme of its 26th edition during the press conference held on Tuesday at Centre sportif de la Petite-Bourgogne.
“We are very proud of the Défi sportif programme. The event will be held form Wednesday, April 29 to Sunday, May 3, 2009 and will assemble 3,000 athletes from about 15 countries. Once again this year, the Défi sportif breaks new ground with two novelties for its 26th edition.” according to Chantal Petitclerc, Défi sportif spokesperson for 11 years now.
The first addition is the introduction of sledge hockey, first winter sport to officially appear on the Défi sportif programme. Spectators will have a unique opportunity to get acquainted with this little-known sport at the approach of the next Paralympic Winter Games, which will be held in Vancouver in 2010.
The other first-run, bur not the least, is the wheelchair basketball SUPER FINAL, the culmination of the largest tournament in North America. The two best teams will face off in the ultimate match-up that will play out on Sunday May 3 at 2:30 p.m. at Centre Pierre-Charbonneau.
The press conference was a real success. Many journalists came out on this occasion. In short, it is a good omen for the 26th edition of the Défi sportif.
