2012 benefit: a gourmet challenge!
The 2012 Défi sportif AlterGo fundraising activity is meant to be original: a gourmet challenge.
More than just a meal, the activity will be a regular epicurean event. Chef Pasquale Vari, head instructor at the Institut de tourisme et d'hôtellerie du Québec (ITHQ), will hold a culinary workshop on the various dishes that will be served, in front of the guests. The concept of the evening will be completed by a gastronomic challenge: four prominent people from the business world will cook dishes on site and will be evaluated by chef Vari and the guests.
The latter will enjoy the three-course menu designed by the chef, accompanied with wines selected by the SAQ. They will leave with the wine and food pairing and the recipes of the evening's dishes in hand.
Born in Italy, chef Pasquale Vari has been in the kitchen since 1982. He earned a diploma in Italian cuisine from the Vibo Valentia Italia school of hotel business, a diploma in professional cuisine from the ITHQ in 1986 and one in progressive cuisine for restaurants and hotels, also from the ITHQ in 1987. He teaches Italian cuisine there in the regular program since 1995, as well as being in charge of three programmes. He co-authored the book Parmigiano Reggiano in 2008 and sits as judge on the televised competition Les Chefs.
The event will take place on Wednesday February 15, 2012, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Palais des congrès de Montréal. Tickets are available for $250 each (income tax receipt for $150 on request). Under the honorary presidency of Mister Sam Scalia, president of SAMCON, biggest builder of condominiums in Montréal, the event will be hosted by Jean-Marie Lapointe, Défi sportif spokesperson since 2002.
