Nearly 144 golfers helped raise $11,196 for the youth sports component of Défi sportif AlterGo by participating in the Plaza Universel Golf Tournament on June 6 at the Club de Golf Métropolitain Anjou.

The annual event, which has been held for four years now, helps thousands of young people with functional limitations to participate in sports competitions.

“Défi sportif AlterGo is the only opportunity for many of these young people to participate in such an event. The contribution of partners like Plaza Universel is vital to allow them to live this experience,” said Maxime Gagnon, director of Défi sportif AlterGo.

The participants displayed their skills in the presence of athletes such as para-golfer Francis Courchesne and wheelchair fencer Camille Chai. They also had the pleasure of meeting young Océane Richard, a participant in Défi sportif AlterGo’s school sports component.

“The tournament is a great opportunity to encourage informal contact between new donors and athletes with a functional limitation and to promote the positive effects of universal accessibility. Everyone grows from this experience,” added AlterGo’s general manager Monique Lefebvre.

This friendly sports event was also an opportunity for its participants to receive hygiene product packages, courtesy of hygienic.com. Also sponsoring the event were the Quebec Produce Marketing Association and Les Eaux Naya Inc.
Proceeds from the Plaza Universel Golf Tournament help support some 6,000 young athletes participating in Défi sportif AlterGo’s school sports program. These young people from all over Quebec train year-round to have the opportunity to outdo themselves in the various sports competitions on the program of the largest annual multi-sport event in Canada.

Défi sportif AlterGo team would like to thank its partners who are the reason behind Plaza Universel Golf Tournament’s ever-growing success.
